Visiting the World’s Highest Microbrewery in Singapore

We visited the world’s highest urban microbrewery in Singapore. It’s called LeVeL33, and yes, that is how you write it.
My first thought when seeing the claim “world’s highest urban microbrewery” was, why do they need to specify “urban”? Is there a 50-floor tower in the middle of the Kansas prairie that is overall the world’s highest microbrewery? Probably not, so let me rephrase.
We visited the world’s highest urban microbrewery in Singapore.
LeVeL33 is on the 33rd floor of the Marina Bay Financial Centre, Tower 1 in Singapore’s central business district.
We had a noon reservation on a weekday, which I’m sure would be prime-time for business meetings in pre-Covid times, but when we arrived it was virtually empty. (It did get busier from 1pm onwards though.)
The main draw of the microbrewery surprisingly isn’t the beer. It’s the view, which is stunning, definitely one of the best in Singapore.
It has a view over the bay, with various striking architectural marvels in viewing distance, from the durian-looking Esplanade directly opposite to boat-in-the-sky Marina Bay Sands and Gardens by the Bay on the right.
The views might be the reason we visited, but the brews were also top notch. We ordered a tasting paddle of different styles ($23.50 SGD), from wheat beers up to a good hearty stout, all of which were great.
For the true aficionados, you can also see the inside of the brewing tanks, looking like a cross between an ultrasound and a collection of grainy photos of UFO sightings (probably from that Kansas prairie).
The food was a set menu for lunch, $42 SGD per person.
For a starter we went to the buffet to have a server pile up our plate with as many shrimp, slices of prosciutto, cheese cubes, and smoked salmon as we felt confident wouldn’t put us into a coma.
For mains, we got fish and chips (“beer-battered hake, crisscut potato chips, tartar sauce”) and a burger (“specially created crispy beer malt artisanal brioche by our local baker, Wagyu beef patty, chipotle mayo, Cheddar cheese, lettuce, caramelised onions”) respectively, which were both fantastic.
My one complaint would be that I’d have preferred a dessert to a starter as part of the set menu and by the time we’d made our way through the starter and main, brownie or tiramisu would have killed us. But we did go back to the buffet for some orange and watermelon slices.
If you’re here now or come visit when the world goes back to normal, don’t miss LeVeL33, the world’s highest urban microbrewery in Singapore. The views are stunning and the food and beer is the icing on the proverbial cake.
